Have you read chapter 9 of the manual? (Controlling Document Layout¹). I
haven¹t used it myself (in my experience items end up being added or taken
out at the last minute and even gets knocked out of place), but I think that
is what you are describing.
BTW, you don¹t need an «else» before «endif» - might save you a few
keystrokes!
