From fnsbg at uaf.edu Fri Mar 10 15:01:45 2006 From: fnsbg at uaf.edu (Susan Gibson) Date: Fri Mar 10 15:02:02 2006 Subject: [EmData] Switching from 1 col to 2 col during pour Message-ID: <4411DB29.8000806@uaf.edu> Hi folks, I'm working on creating a prototype for our Commencement program. The problem I'm currently having is that the graduates with all the degree info flows into 2 columns but I need the College/School names to go across both columns. The two-col. format is created using a frame oject style. I've attempted to put the college heading in one text frame in the prototype and threaded it to the 2 col. text frame but that didn't work. I know there's a way to do this but it's beyond me at this point. Help? Thanks, Susan -- ============================ Susan B. The text box that the prototype is in does not influence the way the type flows in (unless you have put your prototype into the boxes on the page where your type will end up - not good practice as you lose your prototype when you use it!). Can you describe further? Do the 2 col boxes occur randomly throughout the pages, or just at the top of each? XData will format your type, but not create the boxes. For that you'd probably need XTags, but I've not got much experience of that. If the boxes are 'regular', you can build them into your master page and link them on that, set Auto Page Insertion to 'On' and let Quark do the work. If they are random and if your document is not huge you could make your boxes manually and link them, otherwise you need to look for another piece of software to handle the boxes. Looks like my question was a litle premature. I was trying to handle a layout issue using the prototype so that some of the formatting could be done automatically instead of manually. Our designers have decided they want to do this manually so I guess I don't need help after all. Thanks, Susan Emma Glaisher wrote: >>Emma, >> >>I am a little confused by what you are asking here. Could you please send us what you are trying to do ? your current prototype attempts and also a finished sample of the desired results, along with some data ? and we will see if we can offer you any specific suggestions.
