Subject: [Em Beta] Xtags for InDesign CS4/CS5 now in beta
Message-ID: <613467E9-82E8-43AC-8902-0B73FA5A1AEF@emsoftware.com>
Dear folks--
We're starting to roll out our CS5 plug-in betas, with Xtags going first.
.
If you're interested at all, please see the beta page above. This version of Xtags will support both CS4 and CS5 (we're dropping CS2/CS3 in new versions, and includes some important new features.
InData's coming next (we're not quite sure of the timing), then InCatalog.
(Please forgive any duplicate messages; this is important enough that I wanted to let subscribers to Em's general announcements list know, as well as the beta announcements subscribers.)
As usual, feedback of any sort to support@emsoftware.com is greatly appreciated, whether negative or positive. Even just "Euraka! It works great here!" would helpful. But, of course, specific problem reports are very valuable during this beta period.
Thanks for your ongoing support.
Cheers!

Subject: [Em Beta] Xtags 6/7.1.3 beta 3 for CS4/CS5
Message-ID:
MacOS: http://ftp.emsoftware.com/mac/beta/itm6713b3.zip
WinOS: http://ftp.emsoftware.com/win/beta/itw6713b3.zip
This beta will expire on August 8, 2010.
Changes for 6/7.1.3b3:
* We've simplified the CS5 plug-in installation process (especially on Windows) by adding support for Adobe's Extension Manager. Instead of copying multiple files, now you may simply double-click the zxp installer file located in the "Plug-ins for InDesign CS5" folder. Doing so should start Adobe's Extension Manager and guide you through the installation process.
If the Extension Manager doesn't start automatically, then find and start the "Adobe Extension Manager CS5" application, click on "Install" and then select the "xtags_7.1.3b3_installer.zxp" file located in the "Plug-ins for InDesign CS5" folder.
In addition to making plug-in installation easier, the Adobe Extension Manager has the additional benefit of letting you know when updated versions of Em Software plug-ins are available.
* Fixed a problem in CS5 where Xtags would crash if a picture wasn't found. Xtags now properly inserts the missing picture proxy image without crashing.
* Fixed a problem in CS5 where exporting a PDF in the background was causing Xtags to crash.
* Added support for the import of XPress Tags via InDesign's Place dialog and drag'n'drop. There are currently no import options; instead, all current Xtags import preferences will apply except "include style sheets", which will always be set. Importing unanchored box tags using the Place dialog or drag'n'drop will cause an error. To import unanchored box tags, use File > Import Text with Xtags.
* Added support for the export of XPress Tags via InDesign's Export dialog. Note that any text exported this way will use platform encoding (Mac-Roman or Win-Latin). To export with a different encoding, use File > Save Text with Xtags.
* Fixed a problem where importing a missing picture with a non-native path (a Mac-style path in the Windows plug-in, for example) would result in no link being generated for the missing picture proxy image.
Cheers!

Subject: [Em Beta] InData for CS4/CS5 now in beta

Dear folks--
We're continuing to roll out our CS5 plug-in betas, with InData now in beta. You can download it from
.
This version of InData will support both CS4 and CS5 (we're dropping CS2/CS3 in new versions).
This first beta version seems fairly solid (having gone through some alpha testing); if we get no more show-stopper bug reports, we'll probably have an official release within a week or so.
(Please forgive any duplicate messages; this is important enough that I wanted to let subscribers to Em's general announcements list know, as well as the beta announcements subscribers.)
As usual, feedback of any sort to support@emsoftware.com is greatly appreciated, whether negative or positive. Even just "Eureka! It works great here!" would be helpful. But, of course, specific problem reports are very valuable during this beta period.
Thanks for your ongoing support.
Cheers!

Subject: [Em Beta] InData for CS4/CS5 beta 2 now available
Message-ID: <89E7D96D-2FBF-4F1C-AA8D-A46C04D787E1@emsoftware.com>
Beta 2 of InData for CS4/CS5 is now available at .
If you don't want to bother with the website, here are the details:
- - -
(From Chris Roueche:)
MacOS: http://ftp.emsoftware.com/mac/beta/idm6716b2.zip
WinOS: http://ftp.emsoftware.com/win/beta/idw6716b2.zip
Note for CS5 users: updating to the latest version of InData is as simple as starting up Adobe Extension Manager, selecting InData and clicking on the "update" button.
This beta will expire on November 1st.
The CS5 beta plug-in will accept CS4-based serial numbers.
The InData companion plug-in InFlow is available as a separate download from:
MacOS: http://ftp.emsoftware.com/mac/demo/InFlow6722.zip
WinOS: http://ftp.emsoftware.com/win/demo/InFlow6722.zip
---
Changes for 6/7.1.6b2:
* Fixed a problem where placing the text cursor at any position other than the very beginning of an inline prototype would hang the import.
* Added built-in support for XPress-tagged styled text (the Xtags plug-in is no longer required).
* Added support for Xtags-style anchored/inline text and picture frame tags (&tb and &pb) in Xpress-tagged styled text.
* Added the "indesigntagged" and "xpresstagged" keywords to control the tag format used to interpret individual styled puts. For example, <> would handle InDesign Tags-styled text while <> would expect XPress Tags-styled text. To use XPress Tags by default, add <> to your prototype (which does not affect the "defaultisstyled" setting).
Cheers!

Subject: [Em Beta] moving mailing lists
Message-ID:
Dear Em Software Announce and Beta-Announce list members--
With our new web site now solidly in place (http://emsoftware.com), we're moving to new ways of keeping in touch, and retiring these old MailMan lists. (They were hard to maintain, and hard to keep spam out.)
For now, you've been added to our general Em Software Newsletter mailing list, which replaces the general Announce list.
(You can visit to unsubscribe immediately. You can also unsubscribe anytime from any emails you receive from us. We're about to send out our next newsletter, so you might wait for it and then decide if you'd like to stay subscribed.)
We have a new place to view all your options for keeping in touch: . These include the aforementioned Em Software Newsletter mailing list, new RSS news feeds, new email-based RSS news feeds, and Twitter (@emsoftware).
We're working on making RSS/email subscriptions more targeted, so you could subscribe to just beta-announcements about a single product, if you like. That's coming soon, at the above "keeping in touch" page.
Thanks for being with us all these years, and I hope these new options for keeping in touch are more useful and targeted.
I'd love to hear your thoughts about all this (just reply to this email and it'll get directly to me).
Thanks again &
Cheers!
